Back to Routine

Today is the day in the past I would have fallen off track.

Vacation is over. I don’t have any specific goals to push towards. What’s one more day off?

Well one day would turn into one week, which would turn into one month, and then I’m back up 10 pounds.

Talk about yo-yo dieting.

However, my health and fitness journey is different now. I don’t rely on being motivated. I’ve built a lifestyle that I know helps me feel better.

So today: I’m getting back on track no matter how much I don’t feel like it. The 3 key things I’m focusing on to feel good again are:

1. Space

Maybe I’m just unlucky, but when I come home from a trip my fiancé has typically allowed the apartment to become a mess. Dishes in the sink, hasn’t been vacuumed, mail piling up.

I can’t work in that.

To be in a clear headspace, I also need to be in a clear physical space.

Cleaning might not be the most pressing thing on my to-do list, but I spend an hour to do that first. Otherwise, I will have it in the back of my mind the entire time I’m working.

2. Workouts

I haven’t worked out in over a week. I’m not getting this workout in because I think I’ll make massive strength gains, or that it’s a deal breaker in staying in shape. I’m getting the workout in because of habit.

One workout today, is going to get me started for the rest of the week on track.

It also just feels great to move your body. When you’ve been sitting on a plane and in an airport all day your first reaction might be to continue sitting. Your joints start to get creaky and they need to loosen up.

I don’t expect to have the best workout of my life, but this workout isn’t about the physical effects, it’s about the mental. It’s about re-establishing a routine.

3. Veggies & Hydration

I think the only vegetable I had all week was in the form of a ceasar salad.

I like to enjoy my vacations. I don’t worry too much about tracking macros or water. At the end of the week my skin and gut are feeling it though.

My lips are chapped from dehydration (a few too many white claws). The gut is all out of whack and bloated. So I know exactly what my body needs.

A veggie heavy dinner and lots of water will help with getting digestion right back on track and my body in peak form.

A few small habit can completely change the tone of your week.

Just because it’s a Tuesday, you don’t need to wait til Monday to get back on track. Getting the physical in line will help the mental to follow.
